New Year, The story of isel beauty
Share
Happy New Year! We do not know what 2025 has coming but I think it's high time to get to know what or how isel beauty came to be. Let’s begin to a time not too long ago (although it's been 5 years):
I think like many new small businesses my story starts in 2020. At that time I had been working at a pharmaceutical company for a year by then and even though I was content I wanted to pursue something different. I started looking into FDA regulations and noticed that makeup and skincare was a part of the FDA umbrella. I contemplated the fact that I already have knowledge of what it takes to work in a pharmaceutical company in the areas of quality and regulations; therefore it should translate to skincare and makeup.
I started to look into job opportunities and possibilities here in Puerto Rico, but I was unable to find the right fit for me in the field available at the time. My curiosity grew and I decided to certify myself in formulating natural cosmetics. Found a reputable class online and started partaking in the sessions. I think I was able to pick up the information fast since I have a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and add to that my year experience, at the time, of pharmaceutical procedures.
Then the pandemic hit, my job was/is considered essential therefore I still had to go in and do my job even though the world was in chaos. Since I had time on my hands; I was able to finish gaining my certification as a natural cosmetic formulator and start dreaming of a Puerto Rican skincare company. Three years later after a lot of formulating, testing and oil stains.
I was finally able to release two beautiful products to the market; isel beauty’s sensitive oil cleanser and isel beauty’s sensitive face lotion.
Now let's go back even further in time: the origin of my interest in skincare and makeup. Growing up I always had my mom as an example to follow for skincare, this lady never had a day without their lotions, creams, serums, etc. As a typical teenager/ young adult wanting to be different from my family, I never took my skincare seriously until I read it repeatedly in books about makeup. (I think there’s a lesson here about family and my own stubbornness, but I digress). Let’s fast forward to 2016, when the makeup craze was at a peak, my friend started doing people’s makeup and one of those people was me. This led me to be fascinated by how easy it was to gain a studio face at home with drugstore products.
Thanks to her I started exploring and using makeup a whole lot more like anyone back then, even though there were questionable makeup trends I am thankful for the exploration of makeup back then. It allowed a space for everything and just having fun messing up.
From then on I started thinking of pursuing Makeup artistry as a side hustle, I wanted to pull everyone’s beauty out like my friend did for me. I started looking into books regarding makeup artistry and noticed a pattern. The pattern was that the first chapter always talked about the importance of skincare. The first step to a flawless makeup was skincare and that idea was hammered in repeatedly through the different texts. There I started spiraling into skincare, especially Korean beauty, which is one of the essence of isel beauty.
Thanks to how my life has been it has led me to create isel beauty and it’s a creation of love and a genuine passion for skincare. It’s been a beautiful journey and with its ups and downs, she’s been seen in this world for a year now but she’s been in the making for the past 5 years. I hope to continue showing you more aspects of isel beauty and be a part of your skincare journey.
Con amor 💖,
